📄TOS.TXT — Terms of use

Terms of use

Version of 22 August 2026 — governing access to and use of the LifePaths service. Separate from the Terms of sale, which cover credit purchases.
“LifePaths Corp.™”, “LifeOS”, the “simulated existences” and the whole vocabulary of the fiction are humour and set dressing: no life is really created, sold or destroyed. These terms, however, are quite real and govern your use of the game.

1. Purpose and acceptance

These terms of use (the “Terms”) govern access to and use of the online game LifePaths (the “Service”), published by Antoine Cottenier, sole trader. By creating an account and ticking the box provided, you acknowledge that you have read and unreservedly accepted these Terms. If you do not agree to them, do not use the Service.

Publisher. Antoine Cottenier, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel) trading as LifePaths — 72 rue Henri Robert Neu, Apt 13, 59700 Marcq-en-Barœul, France. SIREN 108 312 349, SIRET 10 831 234 900 013, business code APE 5821Z (publishing of electronic games), registered with the French National Business Register on 12 August 2026. VAT not applicable, art. 293 B of the French General Tax Code. Publication director: Antoine Cottenier. Contact: contact@lifepaths.io.

2. Access to the Service and age requirement

⚠ The stories are fiction generated by artificial intelligence. If you or someone close to you is in psychological distress, the game is no substitute for real help. In France, 3114 (the national suicide prevention line) is free and open 24/7.

3. Account and security

4. Acceptable use

In using the Service — including the free-action field where you describe your decisions — you undertake not to:

Any breach may lead to immediate suspension or termination of the account.

5. AI-generated content

Childhoods, events, dialogue and outcomes are produced automatically by artificial-intelligence models. They are fictional, may be unpredictable or inaccurate, and constitute neither advice, nor an opinion of the publisher, nor encouragement to do anything whatsoever. The numerical outcome of each action (die, consequences, death, justice) is decided by the game engine, not by the player.

Transparency (EU AI Act). You are interacting with an artificial intelligence system: the stories, legend titles and end-of-life portraits are automatically generated. The portraits depict fictional characters — they show no real person and are not manipulations of existing people. The existence card carries a note of its origin, because it is made to be shared outside the game. The models are provided by third parties (Mistral AI, OpenAI, Anthropic) depending on the tier chosen; the publisher trains no model on your games. Sharing your fictional character with other players is detailed in §9 “Personal data”.

6. Credits and purchases

Using the AI generation features consumes credits. Their purchase, price, delivery and the right of withdrawal are governed by the Terms of sale. A complete free trial is offered, subject to an account with a confirmed e-mail address and within the technical limits stated. Credits are not sold in the United Kingdom; the game, the free trial and credits already acquired remain accessible there.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, its code, its “LifeOS” visual universe, its texts and its design are protected and remain the property of the publisher. These Terms grant you only a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right of use, limited to the lifetime of your account. You remain free to make personal use (screenshots, sharing) of the stories and cards generated for your own playthrough. In return, you grant the publisher a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, adapt and incorporate narrative elements arising from your game — including the text of your own actions — into the Service, notably to enrich the game's shared lore; always in a form that does not allow you to be identified (see §9).

8. Availability, suspension and termination

9. Personal data

Data (e-mail address, game history, credit balance) is processed in accordance with the GDPR, solely for the operation of the Service. You have rights of access, rectification, portability and erasure, exercisable via “Settings → Account” or contact@lifepaths.io. The “Export my data” button immediately provides all of your data in a reusable JSON file.

Your FICTIONAL character (name generated by the game, city, country, birth and death years, job, legend title, two highlights) may appear in other players' games (the “neighbourhood” feature) — never your e-mail address, score or net worth. A narrative excerpt of an exceptional moment lived by your character may also, after review by the publisher, be adapted to enrich the game's shared lore, always without any name or detail that could identify you. You turn off both of these shares at the same time from Settings → Account → “The world of others”.

Deleting your account erases your personal data. For the purposes of fraud prevention (legitimate interest), a non-reversible pseudonymous marker (a salted hash of the e-mail address) may be retained in order to prevent the same e-mail address from benefiting more than once from the free trial through repeated account creation. This marker makes it possible neither to identify you, nor to contact you, nor to reconstruct your address.

At the end of a life, a portrait of your FICTIONAL character is generated by AI and kept in a private storage space, so you can reopen your existence card without regenerating it. It is never a photo of you: the game never asks for or receives any photo. It is deleted along with your account.

The Service uses Vercel Web Analytics to measure traffic: no cookies, no persistent identifier, on anonymised data that cannot identify you or track your browsing on other sites.

With your explicit consent (a banner shown on your first visit, changeable at any time), the Service also uses Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies and transmits data to Google (United States). No in-game content is sent to this tool: only navigation data (pages viewed, account creation, credit purchases) is measured. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

10. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the publisher cannot be held liable for the consequences of using the Service, for temporary unavailability, or for the fictional content generated by the AI. Nothing in these Terms operates to exclude liability that cannot be excluded under French law, in particular towards consumers.

11. Consumer mediation

In accordance with the provisions of the French Consumer Code on "the consumer dispute mediation process", after contacting us and failing a satisfactory response, you may have free recourse to a consumer mediation procedure with:

12. Amendments to the Terms

The publisher may amend these Terms to follow changes in the Service or in the applicable regulations. Users are informed of substantial changes; continuing to use the Service after they take effect constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution will be sought before any action is brought; failing that, the French courts will have jurisdiction under the ordinary rules.

This document is written in French. Any translation is provided for convenience; in the event of a discrepancy, the French version prevails.
